Last night, the Lucena village of Las Navas del Selpillar hosted one of the main activities in the programme organised for the European Days of Jewish Culture: “Harmony of the Flavours of Sepharad”.
During this gastronomic and musical experience, guests tasted recipes from chef Javier Zafra’s book Sabores de Sefarad, with Aceites de Lucena PDO extra virgin olive oil as an essential ingredient. The dishes were prepared by Tres Culturas restaurant and served by El Abuelo Pepe catering.
Around 80 people attended and enjoyed dishes such as “almendrajo with melon”, an ajoblanco with a sweet garnish; hummus; “takayut”, an aubergine and lamb pie; an oxtail terrine; and distinctive torrijas to finish. These were paired with Montilla-Moriles PDO wines from the La Aurora, Ángel Lara and Nava de Silpia wineries, selected by Gregorio Córdoba.
Miguel Herrador’s narration introduced the Sephardic music of Marizápalos Dúo, in an event recalling “The Synaesthesia of Wine”, held some years ago at the Municipal Auditorium. It celebrated the city’s Sephardic past through its gastronomy and local products.
The “Pearl of Sepharad Premium” visit will close the programme this Sunday, 25 September.
