The full geographical area

10 Municipalities

The geographical area covered by the Aceite de Lucena Designation of Origin lies in the south of the province of Córdoba and comprises 10 municipalities:

  • Aguilar de la Frontera
  • Benamejí
  • Encinas Reales
  • Iznájar
  • Lucena
  • Montilla
  • Moriles
  • Monturque
  • Puente Genil (the right-bank part of the municipality, bordering the area known as Miragenil)
  • Rute

Together, these municipalities cover a total area of 126,747 hectares, of which 46,275 hectares are certified as production areas for the Aceite de Lucena PDO.

One of the distinctive features of our Protected Designation of Origin is the diversity of this extensive territory, stretching from the Córdoba countryside to the south-western part of the Sierras Subbéticas.

Although Hojiblanca is our main variety, differences in microclimates, altitude and soils allow it to express itself differently in the various towns of our region.
