Aceites de Lucena Designation of Origin Organises Guided Summer Tastings

The Aceites de Lucena Designation of Origin is organising extra virgin olive oil tastings for the general public throughout the summer months.

Members of the municipal council and the media have also been able to take part in recent sessions.

Lucena City Council’s Tourism Councillor, Teresa Alonso, explained that the purpose of these events is to raise awareness of olive oil and bring it closer to residents so that they appreciate it even more.

Aceites de Lucena Designation of Origin manager Patricia Caraballo encouraged people to join the tastings and announced a forthcoming edition pairing olive oil with different Mediterranean dishes.

Caraballo explained that more than 90% of the Extra Virgin Olive Oil from the Aceite de Lucena DO comes from the Hojiblanca olive variety. It has noticeable yet mild pungent and bitter attributes, which are very well balanced.

It is an oil with a mild taste and aroma, with green-ripe fruitiness and great aromatic elegance.

She added that the designation’s oil is obtained using only physical or mechanical processes at low temperatures, preserving its chemical composition and retaining the flavour, aroma and characteristics of the fruit.
