Olimerca.— At its most recent plenary meeting, the Regulatory Council of the Aceite de Lucena Protected Designation of Origin unanimously approved the appointment of former vice-president Francisco de Mora Pérez as its new president and Manuel Gómez Pareja as vice-president.
De Mora Pérez succeeds Antonio Cañete Muñoz, who had chaired the PDO since 2014 and whose dedication and commitment were acknowledged by the council. He combined that role with the presidency of Coop. Ntra. Sra. de Araceli in Lucena, a position he is also leaving following the recent appointment of Antonio Aguilera Muñoz as president of the cooperative.
These appointments mark a new phase for the Aceite de Lucena Designation of Origin, continuing the council’s revitalisation begun late last year with Patricia Caraballo’s appointment as Secretary-General and the approval of a new strategic plan this spring.
A New Direction
Last May, the Regulatory Council of the Aceite de Lucena Protected Designation of Origin unanimously approved the “Aceite de Lucena Regulatory Council Strategic Plan 2022–2024”, on which work is already under way.
It is structured around four pillars:
- Encouraging and monitoring the quality of certified extra virgin olive oil;
- Promoting and supporting the marketing of certified extra virgin olive oil;
- Leading sustainability and digitalisation within the Regulatory Council’s territory;
- Pursuing excellence in the management of the Aceite de Lucena Regulatory Council.
These pillars are organised into eight strategic objectives and more than twenty actions, ranging from excellence in the management body’s operations to developing the “Aceite de Lucena DO Means Sustainability” campaign.
The plan reinforces the momentum provided by the companies making up the Regulatory Council. It aims to renew enthusiasm for the DO among growers, olive mills, bottlers and the wider public, and help them recognise its value.
