Cooperativa Agrícola La Unión de Montilla, Sociedad Cooperativa Andaluza was founded in 1979 by a group of farmers encouraged by the UAGA trade union, aiming to work together and produce quality products rooted in the territory.
From the outset, its activity focused on white wine and extra virgin olive oil production at its premises on Avenida de Italia in Montilla. Steady growth in membership and production eventually required moving production to larger, more modern facilities.
In 1995, the cooperative acquired a 15,000-square-metre plot at the end of Calle Río de la Hoz, where it built a new olive mill equipped with advanced technology. In 1999, it completed the project with a grape processing facility on the same site. The original Avenida de Italia premises remained its registered office, housing wine ageing and wine and oil bottling facilities, as well as member service offices.
Today its average annual production is approximately 10 million litres of white wine, 5 million litres of red wine and 3 million kilograms of olive oil, reflecting its scale and strength.
Since its beginnings, the cooperative has pursued continuous innovation and improvements in production, diversification and a firm commitment to quality. This philosophy has resulted in a wide product range:
fino wines aged under a layer of flor yeast from traditional Pedro Ximénez grapes; young white wines from Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, covered by the Montilla-Moriles PDO; and young and aged red wines from Syrah, Merlot, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon, covered by the Vinos de la Tierra de Córdoba PGI.
These are complemented by its renowned extra virgin olive oil, produced from Picual and Hojiblanca olives.
This progress has been possible thanks to the support, effort and commitment of more than 1,600 members, who cultivate their own land and deliver their harvests in the best condition, ensuring top-quality products and reinforcing the organisation’s cooperative and territorial character.
